Redline Time Attack, Fontana CA

For this event I was unfortunately absent. But the team still went on!  We rounded out the weekend with a 2nd place finish which is great. For this weekend though and from now on we decided to run the super session for extra points. Being out on the track wheel to wheel with other great drivers and cars is completely awesome. The team finished first in Drift class and those extra points were more than enough to put us on top/1st place in the Drift class for Time attack. So as we stand here n now, WE are the leading champions in out class of the series. However long it may last and how the year will turn out is a full story not in this page though. In other words, we will keep trying to increase that lead and pull out an overall championship win for this year!

Finding the Truth

These are the videos from Rounds 2 in Road Atlanta for Top 32 Competition. Please feel free to leave your comments on what you thing the outcome of Petty winning over Kyle unanimously.

Here is another angle in which you can see the whole run with Klye leading, seeing as how you cant see Pettys car in Kyle smoke cloud. (Which Petty had none) should base your decision.

Off the record, and in personal opinion. After looking at the footage, I do have to say I feel that team KMR was completely robbed. Having a unanimous vote was unethical, at most a one more time should have occured. Over the years the judging has become a little off and questionable. For instance, during the Road Atlanta event the Speed scoring could get up to 25 pts max.  One driver pulled a 87mph entry speed and received a 19 out of 25 pts in speed category. Then a different driver had a 79mph entry speed and received 21 out of 25 pts in speed category.    How this is event logically correct is disturbing to say the least.

All in all this brings me to a better point of maybe changes should be thought of how judging is called, or whether or not judges should sit together to decide, or be placed at different parts of the track to get a better assessment. More to come on that subject later. Enjoy!

Anyhow,

Thanks to ImportRace and Matthmt over www.youtube.com we were able to bring you this footage.

On a side note not related to racing (or as of yet), my newest son is now 2 months old. Next month will be my first sons 3 year birthday.

And back to racing. . .

Round 3 for Formula D is around the corner in New jersey. The California Speedway event for redline time attack is also next weekend. Modifications for the FC (2nd gen rx7) is already coming to a close and the car will be prepped to go on track for some record making times!  Testing for the drifting Rx8 (both cars with KMR) will be going down this weekend at the NOS center. New tires sizes and suspension set ups for Wall will be noted/changed.

Thanks for reading…..Keep the pace going!

KMR 78.6 qualifying run, 15th place of 47

Posted in Uncategorized on May 11, 2010 by kreyonicproductions

Going to Road Atlanta in Georgia was definitely something I would want to do as a spectator in the future! Going there to support a race team was still enjoyable but took some effort to keep going. When the humidity combined with the heat starts to bear down on someone they can really go down for the count if they are not careful. Dehydration and heat stroke are 2 things in mind when it comes to concerns about the event, other than that it was time to get down and lay some tracks!

Being able to ride around the track on a golf cart through the backwood entries and see parts of the track that most spectators dont get to see was awesome. Playing chicken with a squirrel in the golf cart was something different in itself also!

Throughout  the practice sessions all drivers/teams were setting their cars up to handle the lines required for a podium finish. Team KMR had the line down tight but was more concerned with picking speeds up through clipping point 1 & 2. During every practice session Kyle was throwing it deeper and deeper into the initiation and dropping the clutch sooner and sooner. By the time qualifying  came around we had done everything possible to pick up every MPH we could.

Our first run we came out with a 72.1 which was somewhere in the middle of the pack. Our 2nd run was a 78.6 which put us in 15th out of 47 drivers. This position put us up against Ross Petty and the Boso Crew… The battle was set…

When the time came for competition runs both teams were ready and amped to take the track.  After the first lap which we were leading, according to the Formula D judges Kyle had the advantage. During the following pass where we were following Ross and between clip 1 & 2 we fell into a gap. Although the gap didnt get any bigger and we could follow the line identically to Ross, the judges thought the gap was too much of a losing mark to give the two drivers a “One-More-Time”. The win went to Ross Petty and the Boso Team.

Even though the event had some mis-judged calls and flat out favoring it was a good event and enjoyable to be  a part of the excitement! Definitely looking forward to next years return and also throwing it out at the bank in Wall NJ during the next Formula D event. See you there!

*As it turns out  you tube video transfering is crappy. Works for lower resolutions fine but when you upload HD content it bugs out. So I took the youtube link out and inserted a vimeo HD link. And to my surprise wordpress.com doesnt support Vimeo video, only links…….WTF. Just like windows 7 not being compatible with any program over a year old. ANYHOW, click the vimeo link for HD resolution of the first 2010 video. Enjoy*

Its been a while since Ive updated and informed. Been busy. . .  Anyhow, here is a video to show some excitement from the Long Beach event. Only showing a taste of what its like at this event. Saving most the footage for a full length DVD at the end of the season to show how the team handles its business. Feel free to leave comments and opinions.

As the weekend unfolded for the season opener things got to a quick and eventful start. Give-aways and free goodies were unpacked and displays were set. Cars were unloaded, wiped down and fully checked for the grueling battles that were about to start.

The pits had the Redline Time Attack team displayed which included Dave Lemons Mazda Rx8 as well as Kyles 2nd gen Rx7. In the front flagship spot was the pride-n-joy, the Drifting Rx8. Our pits were fully fitted with our new tool sponsorship goodies from Genius Tools and the Nexen Tire Banners, Tents and show items were a beautiful addition.  Starting this year also we are fully lit with Spider Energy Drinks available and keeping the team amped and alert.

Practice was layed out and taken advantage of. Kyle was setting some sick lines while scrapping BOTH sides of the rear end but keeping total control throughout the course. The barriers were a little different than last year and not for the better. Some drivers were so accustomed to last years set up they clipped the barriers where there was none previously. All in all practice was awesome, weather was great and the attitude along with the feeling in the pits was that this round was going to be a great one indeed.

Qualifying went underway and cars lined up for their track judging. Kyle ended up getting 23rd out of 52 cars/drivers. As it turns out that placement gave us Chris Forseberg as our first round of competition. Chris is the 2009 Formula Drift Champion and this battle was going to be a hard one indeed.

As the round approched, Kyle got into drifting mode and the team went into overdrive to make sure everything went smoothly. Preperations and changes were made to accomodate the round and we pulled up to the grid to start our round. The tandem was extremely close with both cars making mistakes or not living up to the role he was supposed to play. In the end, scraping the wall under the bridge which altered Kyles drift line was the final decision of Chris being declared the winner.

Even though we were eliminated in the first round of competition, the overall weekend was a general success in unveiling the new color and sponsor line-up. The crowds love us and we will keep our heads high as we head to Atlanta Georgia for the next round of drifting.

Also dont forget to check us out at the upcoming Redline Time Attack event in Las Vegas NV.

See you there…
