As the weekend unfolded for the season opener things got to a quick and eventful start. Give-aways and free goodies were unpacked and displays were set. Cars were unloaded, wiped down and fully checked for the grueling battles that were about to start.
The pits had the Redline Time Attack team displayed which included Dave Lemons Mazda Rx8 as well as Kyles 2nd gen Rx7. In the front flagship spot was the pride-n-joy, the Drifting Rx8. Our pits were fully fitted with our new tool sponsorship goodies from Genius Tools and the Nexen Tire Banners, Tents and show items were a beautiful addition. Starting this year also we are fully lit with Spider Energy Drinks available and keeping the team amped and alert.
Practice was layed out and taken advantage of. Kyle was setting some sick lines while scrapping BOTH sides of the rear end but keeping total control throughout the course. The barriers were a little different than last year and not for the better. Some drivers were so accustomed to last years set up they clipped the barriers where there was none previously. All in all practice was awesome, weather was great and the attitude along with the feeling in the pits was that this round was going to be a great one indeed.
Qualifying went underway and cars lined up for their track judging. Kyle ended up getting 23rd out of 52 cars/drivers. As it turns out that placement gave us Chris Forseberg as our first round of competition. Chris is the 2009 Formula Drift Champion and this battle was going to be a hard one indeed.
As the round approched, Kyle got into drifting mode and the team went into overdrive to make sure everything went smoothly. Preperations and changes were made to accomodate the round and we pulled up to the grid to start our round. The tandem was extremely close with both cars making mistakes or not living up to the role he was supposed to play. In the end, scraping the wall under the bridge which altered Kyles drift line was the final decision of Chris being declared the winner.
Even though we were eliminated in the first round of competition, the overall weekend was a general success in unveiling the new color and sponsor line-up. The crowds love us and we will keep our heads high as we head to Atlanta Georgia for the next round of drifting.
Also dont forget to check us out at the upcoming Redline Time Attack event in Las Vegas NV.
